Zambia Children’s Village
“Breath of Heaven”
The AIDS/HIV endemic has greatly effected the people of Sub-Sahara Africa. Twenty million adults have died from the disease and some fifteen million children are orphaned. 130,000 orphans are reported to live on the streets of Lusaka alone.
In April of 2005, twenty acres of land was purchased for a Children’s Village. There will be twelve homes with twelve children and a housemother in each. In addition there will be a school and a clinic. Construction of our first home will begin in July 2006.
In addition to our league, local athlete, Ryky Tran races to raise awareness & support for this amazing opportunity to change the world. He will be running, biking & swimming 120 miles a week to raise money for these orphans.

The First Season...
For the first season, I think it went really well overall. We had a competitive league with eight teams from all different kinds of backgrounds uniting in a cause bigger than themselves.
As a whole, we raised just over $1500 for the season to send to an orphanage in Zambia Africa. This season, we are partnering with a specific orphanage called Breath of Heaven that provides holistic service to kids who have lost their families.
Money goes a long way in helping kids in this area. $40 dollars can actually take someone from extereme poverty, which basically means death is hovering someone, to life opportunity. Through this small gesture as a basketball league we are able to sponsor 15 kids for a year's worth of education and resources.
I believe grassroots moments that gather together actually change the world.
I wonder what we could do to help more people?
